We eat lots of eggs and I always have a bowl of eggs ready and waiting in the fridge. I have found that it saves real time to use a pressure cooker. You can make a dozen at a time in an instant pot! They come out perfectly every time and it’s so easy to do.

My son, who is a carb lover but quite picky when it comes to protein, loves boiled eggs. I’m happy about that because eggs are really good for you. Healthline In fact claims that eggs are one of the healthiest foods on earth! They used to be linked to heart disease because of the cholesterol in them but the study no longer supports this claim.

When I heard the hard-boiled eggs of the pressure cooker peel off amazingly, I knew I had to give it a try. It does not drive you crazy that a hard boiled egg will not release its shell? About this recipe

I did my research and found a few different methods for making boiled eggs. I tried them all but most of them left the yolks a little green and overcooked. With a little practice and experience, I found the time and method that yields the perfect hard boiled egg.

You will not have to experiment because I have taken out all the guesswork for you. You will also find instructions in the recipe card below for cooking a Soft-boiled egg and A particularly hard-boiled egg.

Apparently some Instant Pot models have an egg setting. Mine no but it’s really not necessary at all. This is very easy to do.

what do you need

  • Eggs: Use large eggs for best results, and you can cook up to a dozen eggs up to a dozen at a time.
  • water: Pressure cookers need liquid to work properly. The eggs are actually not in the water; Just place a glass of water in the bottom of the pot.
  • Metal rack / steamer basket: Depending on your model, instant pots come with a lightweight metal rack or steamer basket. You will use it to cook your eggs.

How to make them

Pour 1 cup of water into the bottom of the instant pot.

Add the steam basket or wire rack that came with your instant pot.

Place eggs on or inside the basket or rack.

Brown eggs in an instant pot.

Secure the cap and make sure the valve is sealed. Depending on your model, set it to manual, high pressure or simple High pressure, for 5 minutes. This cooking time, along with a quick release, will yield an egg that is cooked but still slightly darker yellow in the middle. This is my favorite way because the yolk is not as dry as it is in the eggs using the 5-5-5 method (see below).

How long to cook boiled eggs

  • If you want Softer eggs, Cook eggs for 4 minutes instead of 5 minutes, quickly release the pressure, and do not give up the ice bath! This will yield a yolk that is mostly liquid.
  • To Harder eggs (Pale yellow all the way), Try the 5-5-5 method: high pressure for 5 minutes, natural release for 5 minutes (before releasing the remaining pressure), and ice bath for 5 minutes.

It will take a certain amount of time for the pressure cooker to reach pressure, depending on how many eggs you are cooking. The more eggs, the longer it will take.

While the eggs are cooking, make an ice water bath.

Quick release pressure, Remove the lid and immediately put eggs in an ice water bath. This step is essential to stop the cooking process; Otherwise, the eggs will continue to boil due to residual heat.

Common questions

How many eggs can be boiled in an instant pot?

Anywhere between two and twelve! No matter how many eggs you cook, the cooking time remains the same: 5 minutes. However, the more eggs you cook, the longer it will take for the pressure cooker to reach full pressure.

How long do hard-boiled eggs last?

They do not hold much time in my house! We are all egg eaters here and I am happy that eggs are a healthy source of protein and good nutrients.

What is the 5-5-5 method for eggs?

You will find a lot of instructions online for the 5-5-5 method for cooking hard-boiled eggs in a pressure cooker. Easy to remember: 5 minutes high pressure, 5 minutes natural release, 5 minutes ice bath.
I found that the eggs were cooked a little too much for our taste in this method. You will find it in the recipe card if you want to try it.

Ideas for forward preparation

If you like hard-boiled eggs, this is the way to go. Prepare a dozen of them and add them to salads or lunch boxes for a light source of protein. Even a homemade egg salad sandwich is unbeatable. Even devil eggs are always a hit.

Tips for storage and reheating

It may surprise you to know that boiled eggs spoil faster than raw eggs. The eggs have a natural coating that protects them, and the coating is removed when cooked.

Hard-boiled eggs can be kept in the refrigerator for Up to a week. Refrigerate them within two hours of cooking and store in an airtight container. They do not freeze well.

In case you are wondering, it is best to leave them unpeeled until you are ready to eat them.

To reheat, peel the egg and cut it in half. Place it in a bowl or dish suitable for the microwave and heat in the microwave on medium heat (50%) at intervals of 10 seconds until it heats up.

Instructions

  • Place 1 cup of cold water in the bottom of an instant 6-liter pot or other pressure cooker.

  • Add a steam basket or rack that comes with an instant pot.

  • Place eggs on / inside the basket.

  • Close the lid, making sure the valve is set to sealed. Set to manual (or pressure cooking, depending on your model), high pressure, for 5 minutes (see notes).

  • Meanwhile, fill a large bowl with ice cubes and water.

  • Quick release of pressure when five minutes are over (see notes) and immediately put eggs in an ice water bath to cool and stop cooking.

  • Enjoy immediately or refrigerate within two hours of cooking.
