Ready to branch out from regular ketchup with your chips? A recipe for a creamy and slightly spicy French fries sauce is the best!

Recipe review

Why you will love it: This delicious sauce is good for everything! It’s super easy (you probably have everything you need to make it).

How long will it take: 5 minutes

Dip chips in frying sauce.

When I was a little kid, the only potatoes I would ever consider putting near my lips were French fries. And they should have been the thin, crispy kind, not the kind of thick-cut potatoes.

Plus, I needed ketchup. Lots of ketchup to dip the chips in.

I’m already an adult and I really like potatoes, of all kinds (potatoes in Fryer Air, baked potatoes in an air pot, instant mashed potatoes in a pot, the list goes on!). My favorite but? I would probably still opt for thin and crispy chips with lots and lots of ketchup. And now that I have air frying, it’s so easy to make the chips!

This recipe for French fries sauce also beats me. Creamy with mayonnaise, spicy ketchup and apple cider vinegar, and a little mustard seasoning and spicy sauce. Oh yeah, and a little pickle relish also intervened inside.

A recipe for a super easy sauce that is perfect for dipping fries in but also wins over a hamburger (think Big Mac) or a roast beef sandwich, you will want to keep a bowl of this frying sauce in your fridge.

Maybe you know it as…

Frying sauce has different names depending on where you live. You may be familiar with it as a yum yum sauce, cocktail sauce, golf salsa (golf sauce), red and white, marie rose, pink sauce, mayoshop or hamburger sauce. It is popular in many kitchens (Wikipedia).

With some great tasty frying sauce

Try it on a super crispy homemade sucker fries (pictured). It is delicious with sweet potato chips, toasts or onion rings with air frying. Try it with zucchini chips in bread or crispy zucchini chips. It is also perfect for air-fried chicken nuggets or air-fried mozzarella sticks. Call me crazy but this sauce drips great even on roasted or air-fried salmon or grilled chicken! And don’t forget about grilled burgers and cheese sandwiches.

About this recipe

This recipe for French fries sauce is incredibly easy to make. Takes less than 5 minutes to ferment. Enlist the help of your children to initiate them into the joy of cooking. I’m serious, a kid without much experience in the kitchen would love to make this sauce, and eat it!

what do you need

You probably have everything you need in your pantry to make this super simple recipe:

  • mayonnaise: The base of the sauce is half mayo and half ketchup. Choose your favorite type of mayonnaise, whether it’s low in fat, duke or anything else. I would stay away from Miracle Whip which is really not Mayo at all.
  • ketchup: The other side of the base, so again, pick your favorite brand. We like to stay away from those that list high-fructose corn syrup as a main ingredient.
  • Apple vinegar: Adds a light hint of spiciness to the sauce. Other types of vinegar also work but change the taste of the sauce so make sure you like the vinegar you add.
  • Dill pickle spice: Halish adds tiny chunks of pickle that will remind you a bit of the Thousand Island sauce or Big Mac “special sauce”. You can relish sweet pickles if you prefer, or leave it out completely if you want a really smooth sauce that is more like an original frying sauce.
  • mustard: Plain yellow mustard has such a familiar taste and it just works in this frying sauce. If you do not mind, replace another type of mustard or even horseradish!
  • hot sauce: Frank’s red sauce adds a little heat to the frying sauce. Choose your favorite type of hot sauce.

Make it yours

Want to make your own secret dipping sauce? Here are some ideas that you can try out.

  • do it More spicy. I keep the heat level relatively low so my kids can eat it but feel free to increase the heat in this dipping sauce by adding another spicy sauce. Use your favorite type of spicy sauce: Tabasco, Frank’s, Sriracha, Louisiana, Chipotle, etc. There are many different types to choose from. You can also add a little cayenne pepper to make it spicy.
  • Change the ratio of mayonnaise to ketchup. Many recipes have more mayonnaise than ketchup.
  • For a smoky taste, instead of ketchup, use a barbecue sauce.
  • Replace the yellow mustard with Dijon or horseradish.
  • Use a sweet and sour spice instead of dill. Or leave it out. Some recipes require pickle juice instead so that the sauce stays smooth.
  • This recipe is Gluten free. It is easy to make vegan Simply by using vegan mayonnaise such as Vegenaise.
  • I just know someone would want a frying sauce without meow. I did not test it but I think you can replace Greek yogurt with Mayo. The final product will be a little more delicate so you may need to slightly adjust the rest of the spices.

Storage tips

You can keep a well-covered bowl or jar of this dipping sauce in your fridge whenever you need it (and why not?). It will last at least a week. Just mix it before you serve it.

note: It will not be kept for so long if there are double dips in your family or if the sauce stays out on the counter for an extended period of time. It is best to just take out what you need and keep the rest in the fridge.
