This gin and briny is for those of you who like dirty martinis – or like to take pictures of fermented pickles. We made fermented pickles again this summer and love to drink shots of probiotic-rich brine.

Somehow my body likes the salty taste, especially when it’s hot. So that’s how this cocktail was created.

what do you need:

  • gin
  • Pickle
  • Celery bitters
  • Optional additions: cucumber, dill, vermouth.

How to make a gin and brain cocktail

It’s pretty easy and I’m sure all you cocktail people will put your own creative spin on it. I think it would be nice with a fennel ice cube, but I’m feeling hot and lazy today…

  1. If adding cucumber, mix a few slices in a shaker.
  2. Pour 2 parts salt water and 1 part gin into a shaker filled with ice.
  3. Add fresh dill if desired.
  4. Add a small splash of celery bitters and optional dry vermouth
  5. to shake and Tension into a glass with a large ice cube.

I like to use large ice cubes here because they melt slowly in the summer heat.

  • 1 1/2 ounces gin
  • 3 ounces Flavored pickle brine – see notes
  • sprinkle with celery bitters
  • Optional additions: sprinkle vermouth, dill, a few slices of cucumber.

Instructions

If using cucumber and dill, mix them in a shaker. Add a handful of ice, gin, salt water and bitters.

Shake and taste. Add more gin to taste.

Tension into a large martini glass with a large ice cube.

Remarks

The pickle brine is The key to flavor here. Remember that the solution is m fermented Pickles (not vinegar pickles). I used our recipe from this fermented pickles recipe or found in the fridge at your grocery store. I also love this lotion from the brand Grillos pickles, available at Costco and Whole foods- has dill in it. 😉

If you are making more than one cocktail, the ratio is one part gin, two parts sour salt water. It is recommended to serve on ice.
