Here’s a festive little number to ring in the new year – the orange blossom! We’ve been sipping versions of this throughout the holiday season and enjoying its bright and cheery disposition.

It is reminiscent of a French 75, but with some liberties taken. The orange blossom simple syrup adds sweet, citrusy, floral notes that delight the taste buds, and orange bitters add a bit of complexity.

Bright, bubbly and bubbly – this is the perfect cocktail for New Year’s Eve.

Ingredient notes

  • gin. A good quality gin will enhance the flavors even more. Look for gins with citrus or floral notes such as Rocco Japanese Gin, the Botanical Gin, or Citadelle Jardin D’Ete Gin.
  • Orange blossom simple syrup. The star of the recipe! It adds a sweet, floral flavor with a citrus aroma to the cocktail. you can purchase Orange blossom simple syrup Or make it from scratch – see recipe notes.
  • Blood orange bitters. Just a little drop goes a long way. Just 3-4 drops will add a unique complexity to your drink. or sub-orange bitters.
  • A sparkling wine. Like a French 75, the cocktail floats with a splash of sparkling wine. Use prosecco, champagne, cava or sparkling rose if you like.
  • Diabetic tongue. Golden sugar is enough here – try cocktail sugar or Demerara sugar.
  • decorate. Dried citrus slices. These are optional but fun. See notes on how to prepare.

How to make an orange blossom cocktail

Fill a shaker with ice and add the gin, orange blossom syrup, bitters and lime juice.

Shake until the shaker is finger cold. (About 15-30 seconds.)

your favorite language cocktail glasses with festive cocktail sugar. Rub a lime around the rim of the glass, then dip the glass in sugar (you can pour sugar on a small plate).

Pour the cold cocktail into glasses with a frame. Top with sparkling wine.

Then add the decoration using dried orange peels, chrysanthemum, eucalyptus, rosemary, mint, or any edible flower or herb.

The Orange Blossom is a delightful and elegant cocktail made from orange blossom simple syrup, gin, citrus juice, with a champagne float. It’s the perfect drink to celebrate the New Year!



  1. Fill a shaker with ice.
  2. Add gin, orange blossom simple syrup, a few drops of bitters and lime or lemon juice.
  3. Shake well.
  4. Drizzle your favorite cocktail glass with sugar – use a citrus wedge to moisten the rim of the cocktail glass, then dip the glass in sugar (place sugar on a small plate or shallow bowl).
  5. Pour the cocktail into a glass.
  6. Float with sparkling wine, and garnish with dried citrus slices, chrysanthemum, eucalyptus, rosemary, mint, or any edible flower or herb.

Remarks

  • Dried citrus slices-Slice these tangerines or mandarins into 1/4 inch slices, place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and place in the oven on the lowest setting, 150F-170F overnight for about 8 hours.
  • Orange blossom simple syrup- Mix equal parts honey (or sugar) and orange blossom water in small pot, add a few large slices of orange zest and heat over low heat, just until combined. Cool. You can do it ahead.
  • advice: Do a checker. Taste and adjust the simple syrup and citrus to your personal preference. You will need more simple syrup if you use lime juice, and less if you use Meyer lemons.
  • Forward / Batch: Once you’ve adjusted the tester, you can make a large batch of the gin/simple syrup/citrus and bitters and refrigerate. To serve divide between glasses with a sugar frame and top with champagne.
