Salmon patties go way back with this family. Nanny made them all the time when Mom was growing up. Mom continued the tradition and made them for us when we were kids, and to this day it is one of our most requested dishes. Ann and I always ask for salmon patties for our birthday. So many people rave about them. There is something about a good old classic dish that warms my heart. I love when a certain recipe contains memories and traditions, and this one certainly does.

You only need four simple ingredients for salmon patties:

Canned salmon, not drained

egg

Salted crackers, crushed

Cooking oil (I use canola oil) for cooking

What to serve with salmon meatballs:

We always have southern fried potatoes with salmon patties. Mom always made them like this when we were growing up, and we carried on the tradition. However, whenever I post this recipe on Instagram, more than half of the comments are that their mom or grandma always served them peas. So you might want to add ours Creamed peas and potatoes to make it a full meal. Don’t like peas? Add it popular Pasta salad!

How to make salmon patties:

Curious how easy this recipe is? its so simple! Just mix all the ingredients together, shape them into patties and fry. Yes, that’s it! This is an old fashioned cheap dish that requires almost no preparation. You can add onions and green peppers, and some people roll theirs in cornmeal, but the only way my family likes them is the recipe posted below.

What to do with leftovers?

Honestly, I think the leftovers are almost better. Place the leftovers in the refrigerator, and they will keep for 3-4 days. I like them cold with mustard. We’ve never frozen them, but I assume they’ll freeze fine.

Here are some of our favorite reviews:

“Just like how my mom and I make them. I tried a few ‘fancy’ recipes but hated them. I guess simpler is better. Or maybe the food you grew up eating always seemed to taste better.” – Charlotte

“These salmon patties are different from what I grew up eating, but they’re so much better!!!” -hope
