I didn’t do much cooking and my viking hood failed me after 20 years. It was pretty crazy how it all happened. The fan and maybe the lights were on and I crossed the room from the living room to turn it off and got a static shock. It turned off the fan immediately I shook my hand and must have cursed and that was it. The next time I went to use the hood nothing happened. I checked the utility to see if I had blown a fuse, looked around where it was plugged in, asked my husband what else it could be. Then googled and pulled up the guide; Yes I still had it and I knew where it was. Pretty impressed I know!



Started looking for a professional to see what could be done. My repairman, I don’t work on hoods. Local hood repair man. Viking stopped making this model 5 years ago, parts not available. The next guy came out of Miami he wanted a picture of the circuit. Trying to remove that 4×8 panel was ridiculous to say the least. Picture sent, no it can’t be fixed. The final nail in the coffin was that we dropped it off at a panel repair guy, not an appliance guy, another failure. So the only option was a new hood. I don’t even know how long it was without it but could be 2 +/- months. Long story short – today the new replacement, much more expensive than we thought, should work. I don’t see any circuit boards in that hood so hopefully we won’t have to go through this again.

This weekend is my kids birthday. Yesterday were my daughters and today are my sons. I asked them what they wanted to do for food. The first thing out of my son’s mouth was this barbecue shrimp. He said he didn’t mind anything else we had as long as I made him these. Such a simple and easy marinade to cook, I don’t even need to use my new hood.

You should make this at least once during BBQ season. I’m sure it will become your starting point. I do this at all our meetings during the summer. I can’t be sure when one of my girlfriends brought it on a trip, it was in the 20 years since we finished building and moved into our house, but it was pretty early and I’ve been making it ever since.

BBQ shrimp in marinade

A little heat, a super tasty marinade to boost your bbq shrimp, great for any time you need a little app for your bbq

Course appetizer

  • 1 Goblet Olive oil
  • ¼ Goblet Fresh parsley chopped
  • 1 lemon juice
  • 2 spoons Sriracha hot sauce You can use any hot sauce you like
  • 3 cloves garlic ground
  • 1 tablespoon Tomato paste
  • 2 teaspoons Dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 pound A big loss Peeled, designed with a tail
  • In a large bowl or zip loc bag, add everything except the shrimp and mix well. Add the shrimp and mix until all the shrimp are absorbed in the marinade. Let sit for at least two to 24 hours. I wouldn’t go past the 24 hour mark, there is enough fresh lemon that is acid and will start to cook the shrimp.

  • Preheat the barbecue grill and then skewer each piece of shrimp. It doesn’t take long for shrimp to cook so prepare yourself with a plate or tray and friends and family to share. Depending on the heat of your grill, it could be 2-4 minutes per side and that’s it. You want them pink and still juicy.
